UUCF Auction: Can Buy Me Love

If the Beatles are right and all you need is love, there will be plenty of it this coming Valentine's Day — February 14, 2009 — when UUCF hosts our annual auction (shifted from the usual November date). We invite you to join us for a night of fun and sweet jubilation, with music, delectable food and drinks, and heart-pounding bidding for the always amazing array of services, items, and events offered by UUCF members, friends, and sponsors.

This year's Beatles-inspired theme, "CAN Buy Me Love," is a reminder that our auction donations and bids are a major source of funding for the congregation and for our collective acts of love and justice. So join us on February 14 and put your money where your heart is.

MAKE UUCF YOUR VALENTINE IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:

  • DONATE AN AUCTION ITEM.  Complete the member donation form and return it by the donation deadline of Sunday, January 11th so that we can include it in the catalog where it will get the most publicity.  An electronic version of the form is available here.  Everyone can give something, so think creatively (see ideas here) Over 95% of our auction proceeds comes from items contributed by our members and friends, such as services, excursions, foods, art and craft items, and dinner parties (always a popular item).
  • PURCHASE AN AD IN THE CATALOG for your own business, organization, service, musical group, etc.; this is a great way to publicize your business to UUCF members and friendsWe greatly appreciate the support of our business sponsors, and list them in our fall newsletters, the catalog, and here as well.
  • VOLUNTEER TO HELP.  Could you spare just a few hours to help make posters, prepare food, solicit business donations, sell raffle tickets, provide childcare, etc? Many hands make light work for all and pitching in is a great way to fully enjoy the auction experience and share the excitement as well as the love. You can fill out a volunteer form here (it’s a short-term commitment).
  • BID ON-LINE.  Starting two weeks before the auction, you'll be able to view and bid on all silent auction items.  Auction items with enough spaces (like dinners) will have some of those spaces (normally two) reserved for the highest on-line bidder(s).  There will also be some items where you can Buy It Now! which may be sold out before Auction Night.
  • COME TO THE PARTY.  Admission to the Auction includes a night of fun and excitement with friends and refreshments. Also, you will receive a bid card for the live and silent auction. Invite your friends. Out of town that night? Buy a proxy bid card and ask a friend to bid for you! (Must be 12 or older to attend. Child care available with reservation)

Check back here regularly for updates or visit the Auction table in the Common Area after services each Sunday to get more information, drop off forms, and grab a kiss (a Hershey's kiss, that is).  We're looking forward to seeing you on Valentine's Day with all of our hearts!

Sincerely,

Christine Stencel, Auction Chair
